Hacin + Associates
Created, designed, and produced by Boston-based architecture + design firm, Hacin + Associates, H+ magazine is intended to reach out directly to friends, colleagues, collaborators, and the local community. The publication reflects the design team's love of design, graphics, food, photography, and the people who influence them. With President David Hacin as the Editor-in-Chief and the entire H+A team as contributors to the editorial content of the publication – the cover imagery, illustration, and photography features are all created by H+A staff members - H+ Magazine also engages local businesses, former and current clients, vendors, and collaborators to produce its editorial and advertising content. It is published semi-annually, with Spring and Fall editions each year both in print and online. This fourth issue of H+ Magazine, the Gathering Edition, explores the spaces where we gather to work, eat, socialize, and celebrate. Gatherings and celebrations are central to our lives and, therefore, central to a goal of designing beautiful, comfortable places. Of course, meeting, sharing, and connecting are often centered around food and drink, and for architects, interior designers, and graphic designers, the kitchens, bars, and places to dine are among the most inspiring challenges encountered. This edition looks at the making of these places and the collaborative process. The feature story, "The Making of a Restaurant", is an illustrative story on all of the people, choices, details, decisions, and efforts that went into making the newest restaurant in Cambridge's Kendall Square, Glass House. Three residential kitchens are the focus of a feature highlighting the details that made a difference, and the issue also reflects upon the closing of the iconic Four Seasons restaurant in Manhattan, and the experience of participating in its headline-making auction. And last, but certainly not least, "Focus" explores the artistry of plating food in a uniquely design-focused way.
