'Understanding Indigenous History: A Path Forward', delves into the history of the First Nations peoples of Canada and aims to offer a path forward for Truth and Reconciliation in Canada.
Hosted by award-winning Canadian broadcast journalist Lisa LaFlamme and featuring interviews with prominent First Nations leader Phil Fontaine and internationally recognized human rights expert Kathleen Mahoney, as well as other special guests, the series aims to help viewers navigate the complex tapestries of Indigenous history and Truth and Reconciliation in Canada, and of bridging the past with the present to pave the way for a brighter future.
Phil Fontaine has dedicated his life to furthering the rights and interests of his people and achieving Truth and Reconciliation for the massive human rights violations suffered for over 150 years by generations of First Nations peoples in Canada’s residential school system.
Kathleen Mahoney has spent her career seeking justice and equality for disadvantaged minorities and women through law. She was the Chief Negotiator for the Assembly of First Nations on the Indian Residential School Settlement Agreement and the principal architect of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada.
Through Phil and Kathleen’s lived experiences and deep knowledge of Indigenous history and culture, this compelling six-part documentary series delves into the history of First Nations people since contact, treaties, the long-standing impacts of assimilation and the continuing journey to Truth and Reconciliation.
