About The Entry

The initial inspiration came when the designer was first drawn to the elegant lines of a Chinese vase and later discovered, through research, that the form actually originated from an ancient wine vessel. This unexpected finding prompted her to reflect on how cultural charm never truly disappears; it simply transforms and reappears in contemporary life.
Thus, the vase borrows the silhouette of the wine vessel: the vessel’s depth symbolizes historical sediment, while the white ginger lily represents vitality. The new and the old meet within the composition, like two eras whispering gentle secrets to each other.
The most striking feature of this work lies in the silent confrontation between “past and present” within the same frame.
In the present, the white ginger lily is soft and pure, its layered petals capturing the freshness of early bloom. Rendered between ink wash and light color, it exudes a delicate, moist glow.
In the past, the ancient wine vessel appeared deep, dark, and richly ornamented, like a cultural memory condensed over a thousand years, heavy yet full of stories.
Placed together, the two elements allow viewers to sense that life and history, softness and strength, and the present and the past can coexist harmoniously within a single image. The fallen petals scattered across the plate introduce a sense of time’s passage; the intermittent whites seem to freeze the moment right before the bloom fades.
The composition intentionally concentrates on the left side, leaving subtle blank space on the right, like an area of breathable air for the vessel and the white flower, or an opening for stories left unfinished.
Behind them, the vertical ink streaks evoke both the texture of an old house’s bamboo blinds and the sediment of time, giving the overall piece a balance of steadiness and clarity.
