About The Entry
The Fog of Memory is a four-panel illustration series exploring memory, loss, and reconciliation through the personal lens of caring for a parent with Alzheimer’s disease. The project depicts a dreamlike narrative: a young girl wandering through a foggy landscape in search of something she’s lost. As the story unfolds, it becomes clear she is not merely a child, but also a metaphorical mirror of my mother—whose memories are slowly fading, returning her to a state of childlike innocence and vulnerability.
Each panel reflects a stage of emotional transition: confusion, longing, grief, and finally, a quiet reconciliation. The soft, diffused color palette and floating textures evoke the haziness of memory, while key visual motifs—like an open door or a vanishing cat—serve as metaphors for irreversible loss.
At its heart, this series is about the reversal of roles between mother and daughter, and the enduring presence of love, even when memory disappears. Through this work, I aim to gently illuminate the emotional complexity of caregiving, and the strength that can emerge from tenderness, helplessness, and connection.
