Sonvi reimagines songwriting as creative scaffolding rather than automation, challenging how AI tools should support—not replace—human creativity. Unlike prompt-to-output AI music generators that deliver finished songs, Sonvi preserves the songwriter's journey by respecting the non-linear, cyclical nature of music creation.
The application follows a "Feel. Hum. Create." philosophy, allowing users to begin with any element that feels most accessible—melody, rhythm, mood, or lyrics. A constellation-based visualization transforms hummed melodies into star patterns, making music theory intuitive rather than intimidating. Geometric beat patterns and contextual AI assistance provide educational support with outcome-focused language like "Polish your melody" instead of replacing creative decisions.
Collaborative features like "Finish My Song" challenges build community around shared creativity. The visual design uses vibrant lime green accents against clean gradients with playful geometric elements, creating an approachable aesthetic that signals creativity over technical complexity.
Sonvi addresses critical questions about creative agency in the age of AI automation. By positioning AI as a collaborator that teaches and supports rather than automates, it proposes an ethical framework for human-AI relationships that counters the exploitation of creative labor. The project demonstrates that democratizing music creation doesn't require outsourcing creativity—it requires designing tools that help people discover their own creative voices.
This speculative design serves as both functional prototype and critical artifact, investigating how technology can amplify rather than diminish human creative agency.
