About The Entry
In today’s saturated gaming landscape, visibility alone is no longer enough to create lasting connection. With more than 19,000 games launching on Steam in a single year, Don’t Nod approached the release of Lost Records: Bloom & Rage with a clear opportunity in mind: how to sustain player engagement and emotional investment during the eight-week gap between its two releases.
Rather than relying on traditional promotional tactics, HAUS of PARK designed Welcome to Velvet Cove, a live, playable narrative experience that reimagined how communities form in a new reality where depth, participation, and meaning matter more than reach.
Instead of pushing content outward, the experience invited players inward. Set within the game’s expanded universe, Velvet Cove functioned as a living extension of its lore. A purpose-built Discord became a diegetic space featuring a welcome center, a radio station, weekly missions, NPCs, and in-world characters who interacted with fans in real time. Players didn’t consume the story; they inhabited it, shaping the narrative together through role-play, theory crafting, fan fiction, and direct exchanges with characters.
At the center was MoviePalaceOnline.com, a fully playable, 90s-style website built in Unreal Engine. Designed as a mysterious artifact from the game’s world, it offered an explorable narrative layer filled with secrets, puzzles, and evolving content that rewarded curiosity and collaboration over passive scrolling.
This approach reframed community not as an audience to reach, but as a space to cultivate. The experience sparked organic conversation across Reddit, TikTok, Instagram, and X, driven by players rather than algorithms. The Discord grew to over 3,000 members, with more than 24,000 participants from 37 countries generating nearly 400,000 messages and reaching over 500,000 people without paid media.
Welcome to Velvet Cove demonstrates a new reality for engagement: connection is built not through scale alone, but through shared worlds, sustained narrative, and experiences people choose to belong to.
