About The Entry
In summer 2025, The Mira Hong Kong launched "Avian MIRA-cles," a Corporate Social Responsibility program designed to connect the community with Hong Kong’s urban wildlife. Located just steps away from Kowloon Park, a lush 33-acre oasis, the hotel is uniquely positioned to showcase the city’s ecological paradox: a sanctuary in the Pearl River’s delta sheltering over 550 bird species—representing one-third of all bird species found across entire China—nestled amidst the world's most iconic urban skyline. The program raises awareness about urban wildlife, promotes environmental stewardship, and demonstrates how nature and city life coexist in Hong Kong.
Partnership and Program Design for Impact
At the heart of this program is a strategic partnership with WWF-Hong Kong, ensuring the program's credibility and educational integrity. The "Avian MIRA-cles" walks are 90-minute guided explorations led by WWF ecological experts who share fascinating insights into the behaviors of numerous bird species found in the park, including rare migratory visitors and vibrant local residents. To enhance the experience, participants are provided with professional equipment, including binoculars and a high-magnification telescope bringing them closer to each avian marvel. The program is thoughtfully structured to engage diverse audiences, with distinct offerings for international hotel guests, local families (combining nature discovery walk with a breakfast buffet), and corporate groups seeking unique team building and wellness activities that reconnect them with nature without leaving the city.
Engaging the Community and Nurturing Nature
This initiative creates a powerful, self-sustaining cycle of community engagement and conservation. By making nature accessible and enjoyable, it inspires a sense of ownership and responsibility for urban green spaces. The program extends beyond the walks themselves, with "Bird-time Stories" map with infographics placed in every hotel room, encouraging self-guided discovery. Crucially, a portion of the proceeds from every walk is donated to support WWF-Hong Kong's local conservation and education projects. This tangible contribution throughout the year ensures that the program's impact is not only educational but also directly supports the preservation of Hong Kong's precious natural heritage, creating a lasting and meaningful green legacy that benefits the entire community and attracts tourism from overseas.
