Coffin Home

Taishan in Guangdong, China, is a renowned hometown of overseas Chinese, with over 1.8 million overseas Chinese and compatriots from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan residing in more than 100 countries and regions worldwide.
The documentary Coffin Home tells a story that took place over a century ago. Back then, early Taishan migrants ventured abroad to seek livelihoods, enduring countless hardships, and "being buried in their ancestral homeland" became their most basic hope. To fulfill their wish of returning to their roots, compatriots from both home and abroad united and spared no effort to escort the remains of these early migrants back to their homeland for burial.
Through its profound theme and nuanced storytelling, the work showcases unique local Chinese folk culture, highlights the contributions and sacrifices made by immigrant communities in the course of historical development, and fosters the exchange and embrace of diverse cultures.
