About The Entry

From 2020 to 2025, the North Coast Fashion Art Festival has been held continuously, using fashion and art as a medium to respond to the long-standing challenges faced by fishing harbors along Taiwan’s northern coast—namely, single-purpose spatial use and limited visitor retention.
With “harbor transformation” as its core strategy, the festival integrates fashion design, technological art, and local fishing culture to gradually establish fishing harbors as viable venues for cultural presentation and tourism. Through cumulative annual curation, the event has developed into a sustained cultural brand, deepening public awareness of marine culture and the potential for diversified harbor use.
The defining feature of the North Coast Fashion Art Festival lies in reimagining fishing harbors as public stages open to reinterpretation. Over successive editions, the festival evolved from early spatial experiments, such as transforming piers into fashion runways, to dual-site operations, the introduction of digital technologies, including AR and NFTs, and later the integration of nighttime curation with fireworks visuals. Together, these elements have shaped a coastal art festival with growing international recognition.
In recent years, the festival has further incorporated traditional performing arts. Cross-disciplinary collaborations between fashion design and Taiwanese opera (Gezai Opera) have established dialogues between contemporary design and local performance traditions, turning fishing harbors into platforms where multiple cultural layers intersect.
At the same time, both spatial scale and time-based programming have been comprehensively upgraded. Nighttime fireworks curation transforms the coastline into a large-scale immersive exhibition environment, positioning the northern coast as a new node for nighttime tourism. The festival also connects fish markets, cultural markets, and surrounding businesses, converting cultural foot traffic into tangible economic activity and balancing artistic production with local economic development.
