About The Entry

Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi - AI-Driven Mobile Visitor Experience
For the newly opened Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi in the Saadiyat Cultural District, NOUS developed a next-generation mobile visitor experience that redefines the role of a museum app. Designed to translate the scale and scientific depth of one of the world’s most ambitious natural history museums into an intuitive and inspiring journey, the app blends AI, spatial intelligence, and immersive storytelling into one seamless system.
At the core of the experience are AI-generated avatars that serve as personalized digital companions. At the beginning of their visit, guests select a character who guides them through the museum from a unique narrative perspective. Each avatar adapts tone, depth, and thematic focus according to individual interests, creating a tailored journey through the story of our planet - from the Big Bang to speculative visions of Earth’s future.
The app operates both on in-house rental devices and as a public Android and iOS application, ensuring accessibility and scalability. Through location-based triggering, interactive room-view navigation, and object-based image recognition, visitors experience a spatially aware digital layer that responds to their movement within the exhibition.
Augmented Reality elements enhance iconic exhibits such as the Tyrannosaurus rex “Stan” and the Murchison meteorite, allowing guests to explore scientific concepts in dynamic and interactive ways. Technology is carefully integrated to remain intuitive and unobtrusive, following an “eyes-up” design principle that keeps attention on the physical exhibition rather than the screen.
The result is not a conventional audio guide, but a responsive narrative platform that merges authoritative scientific content with emotional engagement. By combining adaptive AI companions, AR interaction, and seamless indoor positioning, the Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi app transforms complex knowledge into a deeply personal and immersive experience - setting a new benchmark for mobile storytelling in cultural institutions worldwide.
