For this project, we custom-designed a T-shirt exclusive to Chengdu for the client. We identified the city’s most prominent cultural highlight—its status as China’s most pet-friendly city—as the core inspiration, thus naming the project Chengdu Pets&Love.
The design weaves together Chengdu’s iconic daily life scenes as its narrative thread, deconstructing and recombining elements like hotpot, covered-bowl tea, mahjong, bamboo groves, and face-changing opera (Bianlian). Through mimetic design, pets are transformed into cultural carriers; viewed from the perspective of cute companions, they reconstruct the texture of the bustling local life, vividly conveying the city’s spiritual symbol of “leisurely enjoyment and lively vitality.” This allows the warmth of daily life and leisurely aesthetics to flow naturally through the fabric’s fluff.
The illustration style is youthful, chill, fun, and quirky, with bold, high-saturation colors. Taking life aesthetics as the entry point, it explores the symbiotic expression between apparel and regional culture. By distilling the city’s unique rhythm of life and emotional memories, abstract spiritual symbols are translated into wearable visual language. While maintaining the brand’s minimalist tone, this design endows the product with deeper emotional value and cultural identity.
