About The Entry

Experience a breathtaking fusion of ancient tradition and futuristic light. For the first time in its 1,400-year history, Tokyo’s spiritual heart, Senso-ji Temple, was transformed into a magnificent digital art stage. This monumental projection mapping project brought the night to life, illuminating the iconic Hozomon Gate, the majestic Five-Story Pagoda, and the historic Nitenmon Gate with a spectacular display of digital storytelling.
The exhibition takes visitors on a journey through time, exploring the soul of Asakusa. The visuals are inspired by the temple's hidden treasures, including exquisite "O-ema" votive paintings that are rarely seen by the public, and sacred National Treasure sutras. Spectators are treated to vivid animations of samurai pilgrimages from the Shogunate era and the powerful "Golden Dragon Dance," a legendary symbol of the temple’s protection and prosperity.
Beyond the visuals, the project recreates the "ghosts" of architecture past. Using archival records, we digitally revived the original Main Hall and gates that once stood as National Treasures, allowing modern audiences to see Senso-ji as it was centuries ago. The result is a vibrant, moving tapestry of "Pop Art" history that bridges the gap between the Edo period and the 21st century.
This project was made possible through the passionate collaboration of the local Asakusa community, tourism leaders, and cultural experts. By turning one of the world's most famous landmarks into an immersive nighttime museum, we aimed to share the deep beauty and unexpected stories of Japanese culture with a global audience.
As the golden dragon soared across the ancient rooftops and the historic gates glowed with the colors of a thousand years, the "Senso-ji Projection Mapping" became more than just a light show—it became a celebration of resilience, spirituality, and the timeless beauty of Tokyo. It is a tribute to a legacy that continues to shine, now brighter than ever before.
