As New York’s first COVID-19 spike began to decline, Northwell Health’s frontline employees were in need of a morale boost. We tapped into the national trend of Front Porch photo sessions, localizing the photo series to New York, in order to honor those employees who had gone particularly above and beyond their job descriptions to provide exceptional patient care during the pandemic. As part of the program, these employees were nominated by executive hospital leadership. After completing a short questionnaire where they could share more about their jobs and family lives, each nominee received a 30-minute photo session with our staff photographer, held at the nominee's home. Photos were taken outdoors to adhere to social distancing guidelines, with the employee in their Northwell uniform, surrounded by family and pets. The featured employees came from several Northwell hospitals, including Peconic Bay Medical Center, Long Island Jewish Medical Center, Northern Westchester Hospital and Long Island Jewish Forest Hills. All employees received downloadable images of the portraits to print and share, along with a write-up highlighting their courage and acts of service throughout the pandemic. As a special thank you, each participant also received a family keepsake with a framed photo and engraved quote from their questionnaire.
