Guangzhou Panyu Shiyi Village Fitness Trail

Guangzhou Panyu Shiyi Village Fitness Trail, a long and narrow fitness area by a lotus pond for villagers’ daily exercise, is equipped with public fitness equipment common to be seen in urban and rural areas of China. Using the pavement made of scrap shared bike tires recycled through Meituan Bike, we hope to create a distinctive fitness venue with a strong visual perception for villagers.

Limited by some existing process conditions of the paving construction, we limit the design elements between squares and colors. We use standard-sized squares and optional colors to construct a long strip of the color gradient with pixel shape. Since the venue itself is long and narrow, we hope that villagers will experience the gradual alternation of warm and cold colors as they walk back and forth in the fitness venue. Perhaps they will choose their preferred place according to warm and cold colors.
From the “God’s perspective”, large area and high brightness of the pixel colors also add a feeling of surrealism to the village full of rustic nature and greenery. We hope that this surreal vision will create a strong contrast with the natural landscape and the existing village view, bringing the imagination of remote places and experience of unknown to villagers.
We have marked the length and width of each pixel square, hoping that the area formed by such length and width will provide an intuitive perception of place area. We also expect that this “area teaching” will become a teaching place for the neighboring schools when they teach plane geometry. It will provide the villagers with a little knowledge of scale while providing visual and sensory delight.
