Microworld (www.mymicroworld.online) is a free, independent, educational platform that is looking to change the way medical educational content is delivered and consumed.
It focuses on taking our target audience (District Nurses, Healthcare Assistants, Student Nurses, Practice Nurses, and other medical students) through a memorable educational journey regarding the importance of wound exudate, and how to assess and manage it to help wounds heal.
Qualitative research found that education within this space has not significantly changed in decades. The content is dry and complex and is not positioned appropriately for the generalist nurse or patient. There was a genuine need to improve wound education.
For maximum impact, we introduced characters to represent the various components of wound healing to help us tell the story. We blended the animated story with talking head videos from independent KOLs to reinforce the credibility of the content; and gamification techniques to ensure the end-to-end learning experience was as engaging as possible. Allocating CPD points and certificates to each user who completed a module.
The accredited content existed – in dry, written format. While we remained conscious to never deviate from the required clinical accuracy, creation of characters and the introduction of games helped bring the content to life.
Microworld has given Tissue Viability Nurses a platform that enables them to upskill and educate their teams regarding wound care and improving patient outcomes. In addition, we’re giving Community Nurses accessible content they can share with their patients to improve knowledge, and the importance of selected (wound) treatments.
The platform launched on the 5 May 2021 and the following measurements were recorded on the 26 October 2021. The figures provided in brackets are our original 6-month targets for each category:
