The term “lifestyle diseases,” including the hunchback, with increasing occurrences among young people, due to a long use of computers in the office and smartphones wherever they go. If not fixed, a long-term hunchback can easily lead to such spinal diseases as scoliosis and ankylosing spondylitis, and even result in muscular incoordination like shoulder imbalance and leg length discrepancy.
If a hunchback is effectively fixed by means of corrective devices, spinal diseases and various related health risks can be reduced. Unfortunately, most available hunchback correctors use sound or vibration to alert the user to a hunchback. But as the user can not clearly sense the alert or vibration, the effect is less than desirable.
Inspired by the hummingbird, which beats its wings at the fastest speed in the world, our design incorporates imagery of the bird flapping its wings into the alert. Together with our “DuoSkin” smart tattoo based on the Nazca totem of flying bird, it contributes to great coherence in the design.
The device consists of two parts. The first one is an annunciator in the shape of a humming bird, 6 cm long and 4 cm across. The wings will be flapped whenever the user hunches, calling for immediate posture correction. Besides, the annunciator transmits data to the smartphone, informing the user of how bad the hunchback is, so as to monitor and manage health conditions. The annunciator can be pinned onto the front of the user’s garment, and with just the right size, it will not look conspicuous and out of place. Its pin can be removed and replaced with Velcro for kids’ use to ensure safety.
A detector can readily sense the user’s hunchback and transmit the situation to the annunciator. When attached to the user’s nape, the 6x8 cm smart-tattoo detector bearing the Nazca flying-bird totem, in direct contact with the skin, can determine whether there is a hunchback. In addition, with every five hunchbacks, the detector will release main-frequency micro-current to reinforce the caution. By effectively notifying the user of a hunchback to immediately adjust standing or sitting posture and processing smartphone data, it is easy to analyze and monitor the user’s hunchback and how well posture correction goes.
