As consumers become increasingly dissatisfied with traditional banking offerings, many are in search of new forms of financial services. How do you design an experience that empowers users in a space where trust is eroding? Introducing Eco — it’s not a bank, checking account, or a credit card. It’s something better. The newly launched Web3 fintech company operates on crypto and blockchain technology and has one simple balance that lets you spend, send, and save—all in one place. Eco has created a model that doesn’t skim from consumers or take a cut on transactions. But stepping away from traditional banks and into a new financial platform can seem overwhelming for many consumers. To smooth out the process, we helped Eco by designing a new onboarding experience and app redesign.

Following stakeholder interviews and a competitive audit, we designed a user-centric onboarding experience for the app. The flow leverages a series of screens that highlight the ways in which Eco is different from traditional banks, and the extraordinary benefits members can expect by signing up. Designs leverage simple but striking visuals and motion that accompany non-technical language to guide the user through their first deposit and introduce them to the app’s features.

We also developed the concept, designs, and prototypes of several key visualizations central to the Eco app experience. The “helix” interactive graph, for example, conceptualizes a users’ account health, helping members envision the long-term growth potential. Instagram-style in-app notifications, meanwhile, communicate important information in a familiar and user-friendly manner that keeps members up-to-date about their finances. Our layout is the backbone of the experience, designed for easy navigation so that users can uncover account information quickly.
