Putt-Putt Green at Levine Children's Hospital

Imagine it: A child, who comes to Atrium Health Levine Children’s Hospital with a behavioral health crisis, enjoys a special,kid-friendly space to play outside. To play putt-putt, to draw with chalk, to be surrounded by fresh air, bright artwork and laughter. To simply be a kid, even while in the hospital.

In partnership with the Presidents Cup, one of golf’s premier global events, Atrium Health was able to bring the joy of golf (and sunshine) to its patients at Levine Children’s Hospital by creating a two-hole putt-putt green and outdoor recreation area to be exclusively used by patients.

There was previously not a place for patients to enjoy fresh air or outdoor activities, so when the Presidents Cup reached out with the idea of donating a putt-putt green, Atrium Health found a place for it: outside of a floor that cares for pediatric behavioral healthpatients.
Levine Children’s Hospital offers a wing for patients with mental health concerns to stay before going to their next level ofcare. Some of these patients are dealing with trauma, suicidal ideation or other mental health concerns. This new outdoor space serves as aspecial place, just for them, as they focus on healing.The putt-putt green allows patients to get physical activity and decompress outdoors (weather permitting), providing a positive impact ontheir mental and physical health. Going outdoors motivates patients to stayin good behavior and has helped decrease workplace violence, encourage team building and contributed to overall better health for ourpatients and teammates.

From designers and architects to marketers and administrators, Atrium Health partners came togetherto seethe putt-putt green, outdoor area and mural come to fruition prior to the tournament’s start in September 2022. This course will leave a lasting, positiveimpact on our patients and our community.
