Our guests are heroes plain and simple, and they are a sign of our unique times in Ukraine. I have included Svyatoslav and Yaryna's contact information in the show notes below.
Background on Our Guests: It was not the wedding day they envisaged, but Yaryna Arieva and her partner Svyatoslav Fursin rushed to get married at St. Michael’s Golden-Domed Monastery in Kyiv on February 24, 2022, the first day of the war. Before the war, Arieva worked as a deputy on the Kyiv City Council, while Svyatoslav worked as a software engineer. They are very patriotic for Ukraine and enjoy being activists to help improve Ukrainian society. Our guests first met in October 2019 at a protest in the center of Kyiv, and they decided that they wanted to get married because of the uncertainty of the future in light of the war. They planned to get married on May 6, 2022, but Putin’s war forced me to tie the knot sooner. Our Guests joined Ukraine’s Territorial Defense Forces following Russia’s invasion of their country.
