Mayo Clinic Alumni Magazine Issue 4 (2022)

Mayo Clinic publishes a print magazine featuring the remarkable accomplishments of its alumni. The magazine, Alumni, is distributed to more than 36,000 physicians and scientists across 83 countries and 50 states each quarter. McGuffin Creative Group was tasked with elevating the visual design to create a powerful, modern editorial storytelling piece for its readers on a quarterly basis.
This Winter 2022 issue focused on Mayo Clinic’s support in humanitarian and medical service in times of war. Leveraging Mayo Clinic’s iconic brand and its over 130 years of medical service, we created a 76-page magazine focused on the spirit of service at Mayo Clinic. Articles in this issue featured both current and past initiatives led by Mayo Clinic’s distinguished physicians and medical experts, and their unwavering dedication to service of humanity to raise the bar for patient care.
The tone of the magazine is set with a custom die cut cover of the medical cross that reveals an inset image of Mayo Clinic medics during WWII. The feature story of this issue focuses on wartime correspondence of Mayo Clinic physicians and their experiences in the field. McGuffin utilized vivid historical wartime photography paired with archived hand written letters from physicians to create a museum-quality experience for readers.
Additional key articles from this issue look at how Mayo’s current physician groups are advancing medical care and training for both military service members and those impacted during times of war. McGuffin photographed over 40 individuals across the globe in a range of settings to help further tell their stories in a dynamic and inspiring way. The publication was met with an overwhelming positive response from Mayo Clinic’s Alumni group and military veterans who received this piece.
