The Problems
In recent years, news overload has become a significant social issue, with multiple research institutions addressing this problem. For example, a 2020 study by the Reuters Institute highlights that news overload and fake news are major challenges currently facing humanity. After extensive deliberation and internal research, we have identified four key problems we are prepared to tackle.
(1) DETERIORATING CONTENT: Content quality is deteriorating, primarily driven by ad-centric business models and data point targeting, leading to an increase in misinformation and selective news avoidance.
(2) LACK OF CONTEXT: News publications assume readers are up-to-date on the context behind the daily headlines and because of this, people often react to headlines irrationally, emotionally, and speculatively.
(3) RETALIATORY COMMENTARY: The mass majority of user commentary is unproductive, vulgar, and the result of biased information fed to them from social media user targeting strategies.
(4) USER EXPERIENCE: Existing news app user experiences are overly crowded with irrelevant content, meaningless images, and ads, leading to a distracted user experience and less knowledge absorption.

APPLYING AI TO PURGE THE DIGITAL POLLUTION
(1) PIONEERING SOCIAL MEDIA COMMENTARY CLUSTERING: By using machine learning and natural language processing, we analyze patterns of text data on select social media sites, and identify the sentiment, tone, and relevance of user comments. We then extract the most relevant comments and posts, and aggregate them onto Wysk to provide valuable insights into public opinion and sentiment on news headlines.
(2) CENTRALIZING BACKGROUND CONTEXT ON SUBJECT: We use natural language processing algorithms to analyze large amounts of data online and identify key phrases and relationships between these news events, which can help to provide a more complete understanding of the context behind the story.
(3) APPLYING PERSONALIZATION AND CHATBOT: Our AI tools will also personalize content for individual readers based on their interests, preferences, and browsing history, ultimately improving engagement and retention. We will also integrate AI-powered chatbots that can engage with readers in real-time, answering questions and providing further insights on news.
