The wayfinding system at HUAMEI Resort Indigo Hotel reflects more than just functionality—it embodies the spirit of Narati’s landscapes, cultural legacy, and the timeless journey of exploration. Drawing inspiration from the Duku Highway, local felt crafts, and the seasonal beauty of the grasslands, the system offers guests a seamless, immersive experience that connects tradition with modernity.
The design draws inspiration from the historical tale of a Han princess’s marriage alliance, weaving together the cultural threads of Nalati through a narrative reminiscent of the melodies of the Silk Road.
In public spaces such as the elevators, the signage incorporates string elements from traditional musical instruments, symbolizing the exchange of culture and art along the ancient trade routes. The use of clean lines and elegant forms reflects the harmonious blend of diverse cultures that once converged in the Nalati region.
The icons for male, female, and accessible toilets are crafted using abstracted motifs from Narati’s traditional flower felt patterns, a local craft with a rich cultural heritage. This playful use of color and form reflects a modern take on ancient art, blending aesthetics with intuitive signage.
Color-coded designs derived from natural pigments found in local crafts.
Each icon maintains universal recognizability while introducing a local cultural flavor.
The directional signage system references the familiar road signs along the Duku Highway, which connects guests to Narati’s scenic landscapes and beyond.
Curved arrow designs symbolize the winding paths of the highway, evoking the experience of discovery.
The system encourages guests to “follow the road,” guiding them through twists and turns to hidden spaces within the hotel, mimicking the sensation of exploring nature.
This unique metaphor transforms navigation into a visual journey, reinforcing the hotel’s ethos: the joy of exploration and discovery.
Room signage combines numerals with artistic representations of wild lilies—the first flowers to bloom in the Narati grasslands, even against the frost. These blooms are integrated seamlessly with the room numbers, creating doorplates that symbolize happiness, renewal, and hope.
