Following the COVD-19 pandemic, the role oftace masks has inereasingly shifted from merely serving as ameans of epidemie prevention to becoming tools of fashionexpression and social identity, resulting in a substantial rise intheir usage. However, this surge in demand presents asignificant environmental threat,,particularly to marineecosystems, and there is insufficient awareness among peopleregarding this negative impact. This study develops a wearableinteractive installation based on emotional design to enhancepublic awareness and responsibility for marine protection onthe background of rising usage of face masks. By integratingadvanced hardware and digital media, the installation convertsdifferentinteractive behavior from the user into dynamic audio.visual effects, fostering emotional engagement especiallyempathy with the ocean species and making the consequences ofmask usage tangible and emotionally resonant, so that userswould reconsider their mask usage habits, and foster moreenvironmentally conscious behavior that supports marineconservation, In this article, we first introduce the backgroundof the project, including the impact of face masks on marineenvironments and the lacking of public awareness. Next, wesummarize research findings on emotional deign, how empathytowards animals is developed and the strength of interactivedesign that could benefit marine ecological education. We thenpresent the complete design process of the interactivecovering both the hardware and audiovisuainstallation, components, and their interactive relationship. Finally, wereport on a practical testing of the installation, assessing itseducational effectiveness and potential for improvement. Thefndings suggest that this installation is highly effective infostering empathy for marine life and encouraging moreenvironmentally responsible behavior among users. It could beeffectively applied in environments like aquariums andmuseums to engage the public in marine protection efforts.
