“TAOTOPIA” is an interactive virtual reality experience set in a parallel universe where humans and water animals live in harmony. In Taotopia, technologies are not developed by exploiting other species. Instead, they are crafted with the aim of facilitating cross-species communication, resonance, and the creation of a shared civilization.

Step into Taotopia, where little fish emerge at the thresholds, waving their fins to say hello. Travel anywhere by calling the autonomous vessels gliding above the waters. Communicate with marine animals by encoding bio-signals into the stamens of water flowers, or dive into the underwater realm to join the dolphins in their bubble-filled playground. In the floating meditation chambers, you can drift peacefully, breathing in harmony with the surrounding waters.

Taotopia draws inspiration from deep ecology, recognizing that every living being has value beyond its utility for humans. This vision is further enriched by incorporating elements of ancient Chinese Taoist philosophy and aesthetics, creating a unique blend of Eastern wisdom and ecological consciousness. The result is a vision of what our world could become when we move beyond a human-centered view of nature.

Taotopia serves as a mirror for self-reflection, prompting participants to explore their fundamental assumptions about humanity's relationship with the natural world. The experience reveals the human-centric perspectives embedded in both players' and the creator's psyche, questioning the permanence of such mindsets and examining their capacity for change, particularly as we confront the environmental challenges of our time.
