In September 2024, JobsOhio proudly served as host and presenting sponsor of the 54th Midwest U.S. Japan Association (MWJA) Annual Conference, a premier gathering of political and business leaders from across 10 Midwestern states and Japan. With more than 300 attendees, the three-day event held in Columbus, Ohio, spotlighted the deep economic, diplomatic and cultural ties that unite these regions.
The annual MWJA Conference is a cornerstone of international engagement for the Midwest, promoting trade, investment and collaboration. As the driving force behind this notable conference, JobsOhio arranged a comprehensive program that seamlessly blended economic development with cultural exchange. JobsOhio’s strategic vision transformed the traditional conference format into an immersive experience showcasing Ohio's economic strengths, innovation ecosystem and diverse visitor offerings. JobsOhio's meticulous planning encompassed everything from high-level diplomatic VIP receptions to in-person visits, creating meaningful touchpoints for relationship building and deal-making.
The conference agenda, carefully curated by JobsOhio, featured strategic business sessions on sustainable mobility and global health innovations—sectors where Ohio maintains competitive advantages. JobsOhio also arranged visits to the Intel construction site, Honda's plant in Marysville, Ohio State University's Center for Automotive Research, and the Transportation Research Center, providing attendees with firsthand insights into Ohio's advanced manufacturing, automotive and technology capabilities.
Beyond business programming, JobsOhio offered cultural experiences that highlighted Ohio’s hospitality and vibrancy: an Ohio State football game, a Columbus Clippers baseball game, a whisky tasting and an art tour in the city’s vibrant Short North district. JobsOhio’s attention to cultural bridge-building was evident in the visit to Columbus' Japan Marketplace, the elegant gala at the historic Ohio Statehouse, which honored the ties between the Midwest and Japan, and the creation of a large cardinal, the state bird of Ohio, using origami, the Japanese art of paper folding.
JobsOhio's sponsorship also included a dynamic exhibit area featuring regional businesses, municipalities, and economic development organizations, fostering broader networking opportunities for all participants.
By sponsoring and planning the 2024 MWJA conference, JobsOhio not only supported a vital international partnership, it also positioned Ohio and the Midwest as premier destinations for Japanese investment and collaboration.
