The little wolf was born in the embrace of humans, innocent and lively, exploring the world with curiosity. However, a large human hand shattered this fragile beauty—humans disliked a wolf that could not be controlled. The little wolf gradually realized that in order to earn human affection, he needed to be as obedient as the sheep. So he wished to become one of them.
After two attempts, he wove a sheep’s clothing for himself and transformed into a convincing sheep, finally gaining human approval. Later, he constantly imitated the flock, even absorbing their collective will, longing to truly belong. Yet the more will he absorbed, the more he lost himself…
This animation revolves around the psychological phenomenon of the “loss of subjectivity.” Subjectivity means that an individual is able to understand the world from the standpoint of the self and possess firm personal value judgments. When subjectivity is lost, a person gradually slips into objecthood. At that point, the individual can only passively evaluate and shape themselves according to others’ standards, relying on external approval to confirm their own worth.
The loss of subjectivity is often rooted in oppressive parenting or social conditioning during childhood. In order to become the “good child” within a collective and gain the favor of those in power, the individual gradually abandons their original initiative and autonomy.
In this animation, the little wolf is a character who has lost his subjectivity. He longs for recognition but loses himself in the process, becoming a container for the various ideas of the flock. However, I also wish to convey a sense of hope: those who lack subjectivity are not completely lost. Their true selves are merely concealed beneath layers of conformity. One day, they can break through the shell and be reborn.
