Project: Host & Create (作東。東作)
Regional Resilience × Taiwan
In response to the 44th Young Designers' Exhibition theme "Desirable Future," the National Dong Hwa University Department of Arts and Creative Industries presents "Host & Create." This exhibition translates the resilient character of Eastern Taiwan—a region where frequent seismic activity and natural challenges have forged a profound strength—into a vibrant spatial manifesto. The core concept, "Host," embodies the spirit of warm Taiwanese hospitality, welcoming visitors to explore a unique regional perspective.
Permeable Exhibition × Green Interior
Breaking away from rigid exhibition partitions and standard display cases, the design invites visitors into a permeable green sanctuary. Crafted from light-green mesh, the space creates a semi-open, garden-like atmosphere. This "Resilient Forest" is enriched by native flora from the NDHU campus—including Ravenala, Strelitzia, and Nerium oleander—transforming the exhibition floor into a lush, breathable environment that encourages open dialogue.
Modular Timber System × Sustainable Architecture
Fulfilling a commitment to rapid assembly and high environmental sustainability, the pavilion utilizes a zero-waste modular timber trestle system. This flexible architecture replaces one-time-use materials, ensuring that the entire structure can be repurposed for future academic events in Taiwan, significantly reducing the project’s carbon footprint and reflecting a responsible vision for the future.
Regional Craftsmanship × Tactile Design
The curated display showcases a diverse spectrum of "Eastern Taiwan Handcrafts," ranging from weaving, ceramics, and metalwork to 3D printing and digital animation. By integrating indigenous materials with modern mixed media, the exhibition offers a rich multisensory experience, emphasizing the tangible value of Taiwanese craftsmanship and its evolution in a digital age.
Interdisciplinary Dialogue × Social Design
By fostering a light, garden-party atmosphere, the design encourages joyful and unhindered dialogue between creators and observers. "Host & Create" seamlessly intertwines Taiwan’s natural resources with new-generation digital creativity, constructing a cross-disciplinary bridge that transcends geographical and sensory boundaries to envision a resilient, desirable future.
