As Riyadh undergoes a historic transformation, the New Murabba project emerges as the city’s ambitious new heart. The primary challenge was to create a destination that balances hyper-futuristic scale with a deep "sense of place". Spanning 19 square kilometers, the goal was to develop the "world’s largest modern downtown"—a 15-minute city where residents can live, work, and play within a walkable urban ecosystem. The project needed to move beyond being a mere construction site to become a global cultural landmark that anchors Riyadh’s identity for Vision 2030.
The solution was a strategic narrative and visual framework titled "Al Murabba Retold". This campaign bridged the gap between Riyadh’s heritage and its future by rooting the design of the Mukaab—a massive 400m cube structure—in traditional Najdi architecture. By blending organic textures like sand and stone with modern innovation, the identity became "authentically Saudi" rather than generic sci-fi. The visual strategy centered on three core values: Connect, Real, and Storytelling, prioritizing human-centric moments and genuine emotional connections over polished, staged visuals.
The Mukaab itself represents a world-first in experiential destination design, featuring a central atrium powered by holographic technology and AI-driven environments. By transforming the concept of a "downtown" into an immersive, cultural experience, New Murabba has successfully established itself as a cornerstone of the Kingdom’s future, proving that modern urban development can be both technologically groundbreaking and culturally rooted.
