About The Entry
Founded in 1955, National Museum of History was the first national museum established in Taiwan after the relocation of the Republic of China government to Taiwan. Since its founding, the museum has not only collected artifacts and documents related to Taiwan’s historical and cultural development, but has also gradually expanded its holdings to include artworks by Taiwanese artists and collections of folk crafts, becoming an important driving force in the development of Taiwan’s arts and culture. To commemorate its 70th anniversary, the museum has specially selected 70 representative works from its collection and published them in the commemorative volume History in Bloom, featuring scholarly research essays alongside high-resolution images of the artifacts.
The design concept of the publication is centered on the idea of “Opening the Museum.” Through the gesture of lifting open the book box, the design symbolizes the museum warmly opening its doors to welcome the public to explore its collections and share in the joy of its 70th anniversary celebration. Inside the box, in addition to the main publication, readers will also discover a hidden surprise — a limited-edition postcard set featuring selected collection highlights, adding both interactivity and collectible value to the publication.
The overall visual language draws inspiration from the museum’s architectural identity — a magnificent structure modeled after traditional Chinese palace architecture, distinguished by its green-tiled roofs and red walls. The colors green, red, and gold have long served as the museum’s signature visual identity. Together, these architectural elements and colors form the core design vocabulary of the publication, rooted in Eastern cultural aesthetics.
This publication is conceived as an embodiment of the museum building itself. While preserving the museum’s classic and historical character, it is also infused with a clean and contemporary design aesthetic. Through this approach, the publication seeks to engage audiences from diverse backgrounds and encourage the wider public to rediscover the National Museum of History from a fresh perspective.
