Echoes of Tang's Return

Tang Oen-Yauw Mansion on Kinmen Island, Taiwan, is a century-old residence that carries the history of overseas Chinese migration and wartime memory. Blending Minnan and Western architectural styles, the mansion reflects the cultural development of Kinmen’s overseas communities and stands as an important historical heritage site.
The film follows the perspective of Tang Oen-Yauw’s descendants, tracing his journey from working in Indonesia to returning home and building the mansion. Through family memories and oral histories, the transformation of the residence across different eras is revealed — from a family home, to military occupation during wartime, to years of decline before its restoration began.
The documentary also records the restoration process and traditional craftsmanship involved in preserving the mansion’s historical traces. Through the voices of restorers, descendants, and local cultural workers, the film highlights the dedication behind cultural heritage preservation.
