A falcon lifts from the stillness of the Libyan desert, and time begins to move. "I Am Libyan" is a cinematic short film created to celebrate the reopening of Libya's National Museum in Tripoli, which had stood closed for fourteen years. Following the falcon's flight, the film travels across millennia of Libyan history, blending fact with cinematic imagination.
The journey passes through the early Tehenu tribes around 3000 BC and the eras of the Vandals, Romans, and Ottomans, surfacing along the way the discoveries and figures that define the nation: the Three Graces of Sabratha, the Mummy of Wan Muhuggiag, the emperor Septimius Severus, and Omar Al-Mukhtar, the Lion of the Desert. Each stands as a chapter of strength, dignity, and endurance.
In the final moment, the falcon returns to the desert where it began, no longer alone, but accompanied by the people and histories it has carried. Together they stand before Al Saraya Al Hamra, a timeless symbol of Libyan identity and unity.
More than a tribute to a building, the film is a portrait of a nation remembering itself. It gathers thousands of years of layered civilization into a single sweeping story and offers it back to the people it belongs to, as a vision of resilience and hope.
