About The Entry
“Veins of Ink Emerging” is a site-specific projection-mapped animation created for the façade of THE MART building in Chicago. THE MART is the largest in the world 2.5-acre digital art projection along Chicago River. This project explores the relationship between architecture, nature, and human experience by transforming the building into a dynamic canvas where shifting colors of sea and sky flow across its surface.
Veins of Ink Emerging was exhibited as a student finalist in the annual All-City Visual Arts Exhibition at ART on THE MART.
Created with hand-painted watercolor imagery from an original ink book and accompanied by an original musical composition, the animation evokes the movement of water and the changing rhythms of nature.
Inspired by the original poem Fish Foreign, it reflects the emotional journey of growing from childhood into adulthood, where a small mountain stream gradually becomes a calm, steady river. The work also references and synchronized to the original musical composition The River, suggesting that beneath the visible surface, water connects all living things.
By integrating architecture, animation, music, and poetry, the project reimagines the building as a storytelling medium, inviting audiences to experience the built environment as a living canvas for reflection, transformation, and connection.
