About The Entry

For the U.S. launch of McDonald’s Grinch Meal, the campaign turned a highly anticipated limited-time offer into an interactive mobile experience designed to be played with, not simply viewed.
The idea centered on two distinctive parts of the Grinch Meal: the playful visual world of the campaign and the hands-on ritual of Dill Shaker Fries. Rather than repeating the same mechanic across every environment, each execution was built around the behavior most natural to the platform.
On Meitu, where photo editing and visual self-expression are central to the user experience, McDonald’s became part of consumers’ holiday content routines. Interactive AR invited users to blink and trigger festive transformations featuring holiday lights, colorful stockings and Grinch Meal elements, while additional filters drew from the collectible socks’ distinctive colors. High-impact 3D placements extended the experience across the platform through dimensional product movement, animation and interface transitions.
In parallel, The Grinch Shake-to-Season Experience translated the product ritual itself into mobile interaction. Users physically shook their phones to add Dill Pickle seasoning to fries on screen, digitally previewing one of the meal’s most distinctive experiences before purchase.
Together, the activations showed how technology could serve different but complementary roles: one brought consumers into the campaign world through self-expression and immersive storytelling, while the other used physical interaction to deepen connection to the product.
By matching each technology to a natural consumer behavior, McDonald’s transformed the Grinch Meal from a seasonal message into a participatory experience—bringing its playful, disruptive spirit to life across mobile screens.
