KitchenAid is globally recognized for its range of appliances, namely for their iconic Stand Mixer available in over 30 colors. On a shoe-string budget, and with only a single outdoor digital board along one of Canada’s busiest expressways as our media, we needed to creatively promote the Stand Mixer. We found our inspiration in another iconic design – Toronto’s CN Tower, one of the world’s largest freestanding structures. Every night the tower is bathed in light, cycling through many of the same colors the Stand Mixer offers. To promote the mixer’s color options, we used a camera to detect the ever-changing color of the CN Tower. It converted the color into an XML feed in real-time. An algorithm then provided trafficking instructions to our KitchenAid digital board, instructing it to match the color of the stand mixer to the CN Tower’s lights.
