Blight Demolition Day Media Kit

In August of 2018, Navigate Affordable Housing Partners set out transform community development. The nonprofit purchased two properties in Birmingham’s historic North Titusville Neighborhood. One of those purchases was Center Court Apartments. The original idea was to rehab and renovate the 56 apartment units. It was soon evident, a majority of the units were too far gone to be saved. They were unlivable. So, we set out to make the case the apartment complex needed to be demolished and replaced. A year later in 2019, we began our push for "Blight Demolition Day," inviting residents to come take a swing at blight. We renamed the three-acre lot “Fifth and Center,” created this website and started producing videos and printed materials to engage the community.
The Media Kit consisted of an online version and a print version. We emailed the online version to more than 100 media outlets across Alabama, as well as the City of Birmingham. The printed version was hand-delivered in a hard hat to eight local news organizations including tv and print.
