150 years of Nature: a century and a half of research and discovery.
A scientific paper today is inspired by more disciplines than ever before, shows a new analysis marking the Nature’s 150th anniversary.
In this project scientific publications are a network, each paper linking those that came before with those that followed. In the video and interactive tool, we dive into an analysis of Nature's part of that network. We explore the network, taking you on a tour of 150 years of interconnected, interdisciplinary research, as represented by Nature's publication record.
You can observe more than 88,000 papers published by Nature since 1900 are each represented by a dot, colored by discipline. Papers are linked if another scientific paper cites both; the dot size reflects the number of these co-citation links. The complex network reveals the relationships between papers and captures the multidisciplinary scope of the journal.
