Tarrant County College Website

Purpose: During user testing for the main website redesign, users constantly expressed frustrations with the current student and employee main information system’s (WebAdvisor) lack of functionality and design. The redesign of WebAdvisor became a priority, with a goal of cleaning up the information architecture and refreshing the look and feel to closer match the main website redesign. A new style guide was created for the redesign as well as a new system design based on user data and testing. One limitation was that the system only allowed the web team to modify the CSS; no HTML or JavaScript code could be modified. This proved to be challenging for a system with legacy code written more than a decade ago.

Audience: Current TCC students, faculty and staff.

Results: We met our goal of redesigning the system using only CSS, while making it as lightweight as possible. The redesign was met with an immediate, positive response ranging from campus presidents to countless students complimenting the ease of access through a more focused design. Faculty praised the design, which allowed them to navigate through the system much faster since the information is categorized and arranged in a more useful way.
