Mondelēz International is a $25.9 billion food manufacturing company known for producing some of the most beloved candy, snacks, beverages, and grocery items in the world. While it was still known as Kraft Foods, Mondelēz acquired Cadbury, and excitement was in the air, but the press response was lukewarm, which affected the perceptions of some 100,000 employees—who felt the constant change was concerning. The moment required Mondelēz leadership to address the massive change and regain the confidence of its workforce. They chose to reinforce the leadership values that Kraft had introduced the previous year, and began rolling out face-to-face “enterprise leadership” programs to help every employee build their resilience to change. Mondelēz engaged SweetRush to create Leading Myself, a multifaceted learning program that develops leadership skills and mindset at all levels throughout the enterprise—to help employees be at their best, bring out the best in others, and lead well together. The entire program is an innovative combination of eLearning, virtual instructor-led training, self-reflection, performance support materials, and coaching. Submitted for judging is one impactful course, Personal Purpose: Childhood Story, in which learners discuss a childhood story that was meaningful to them, and, through the lens of that story, discover their personal purpose. Since the program launch, over 8,900 Mondelēz employees have completed one or more of Leading Myself’s modules. Compared to delivering the program in the classroom, Mondelēz has increased its reach by 889% with the eLearning. To date, over 20,000 individual modules have been completed. “We believe that helping our people to be at their best makes business sense and we have received great feedback from around the world that the investment we are placing in people is truly appreciated—and that our colleagues feel that they are being supported as individuals.”—Julia, former Chief Learning Officer
