Elizabeth Mirror the dualities of Priscilla Vezzit Ferreira
By (Marisa Melo Artcurator)
Every mirror is magical. Because it suggests two worlds to us. What we inhabit, with its challenges and limitations, and another, mysterious, that takes us with Alice, to worlds of wonders. The mirror shows us beyond what we choose to see.
And like Dorian Gray's portrait, it denounces what we want to hide: the passage of time, our wrinkles and our secrets. Our disguises and our sins.
The work “O Espelho de Elizabeth”, by visual artist Priscilla Vezzit Ferreira, is an extremely elaborate composition, full of suggestions and meanings. To start our dive it is essential to capture the dual aspect of the work. Starting with the mirror itself, which, since Aphrodite, symbolizes vanity. The earthly aspect, the valorization of the ephemeral, of the appearance. At the same time, reflecting the light, the mirror also represents wisdom and spiritual awareness.
Priscilla uses colors to define meanings. In the upper half, black and gold prevail. Black that represents power, but also mystery and sophistication. The gold, the maximum symbol of material wealth, but which is also connected to the notion of divinity, from the Pyramids to the altars.
The arabesques bring sensual, voluptuous forms, but there is another contrast, because their origin, in the representation of forms of nature, has deep roots in religious art.
In the lower half, red reigns, bringing with it a world of love and seduction, of blood and fire, although softened in the femininity of flowers. The jaguar closely follows this line, as a symbol of strength and violence but, at the same time, of harmony and clairvoyance, with the precious stones that complete the picture of vanity but also bring its vibrations of healing and purification.
Priscilla Vezzit's image brings us the perfume of Dolce & Gabbana. In a marriage of senses that has already united Versace to Elton John. An image of dream and elegance, with a strong message for the observer. Like the painting, each of us has its Yin side and its Yang side. The physical coexisting with the spiritual.
An invitation to conciliation, with the physical body overcoming simple vanity, and valuing itself as an instrument of action.
To build a higher, more conscious and more human world.
