The Bernhard H Mayer brand carries the name of its Founder who established the family business with a metal engraving workshop in 1871. Since then several generations of Mayers have helped take its legacy forward, each one adding their own touch to the brand. In this deeply personal conversation, Bernhard Mayer, the 4th generation of the Mayer family and his son, JR Mayer, the 5th generation, talk about what the Mayer brand has meant to them over the years.

The Mayer name has long been known for its distinctive work with precious metal and precision craftsmanship. Behind the scenes, every generation of Mayer played an important role in expanding and evolving the business to conquer new markets and changing customer tastes.

To those in the Mayer family, the workshop and factories were not just a business or building, it was part of their legacy. Bernhard Mayer (4th Generation) was born at the end of World War II just as the factories and workshop his forefathers had toiled through the decades to build, were levelled to the ground during the bombardment of their home town Pforzeim. He grew up watching his father and the rest of his family work hard to rebuild their business from the ground up. His own life was dedicated to rebuilding his family's legacy and growing it into a global brand.

JR Mayer (5th generation) also grew up in the family's workshops and spent his childhood and youth fascinated with the beautiful products they produced.

Today, the Bernhard H. Mayer® brand is synonymous with luxury, backed by a rich history and a tradition that goes back to over a century and a half of knowledge and experience in the craftsmanship of precious metals.
