Lexipol’s customers – fire/EMS departments, law enforcement agencies, correctional facilities, and local government organizations – are on the front lines of the coronavirus response. Because we serve an essential industry that was uniquely impacted by the pandemic, we quickly acted to develop resources to support public safety as they serve and protect their communities.
Specifically, on March 23, 2020, Lexipol launched a Coronavirus Learning & Policy Center microsite offering online courses, sample policies and directives, and training management tools to help first responders and local government officials respond to the crisis. Typically, each of Lexipol’s products are offered separately. Early in the pandemic, we realized it would be more valuable to use a cross-product approach, grouping all COVID-related resources together in one site.
Although our online courses and policies are subscription-based, we re-engineered our platforms to provide free access to all coronavirus-related content to any public safety agency or individual. This required reworking our Learning Management System (LMS) to allow access to courses previously behind subscription walls. We devised a process for uploading agency rosters so leaders could enroll their personnel and use our LMS tools for one-click dissemination training to all their staff. Similarly, we provided COVID-19 related policies, such as Communicable Diseases and Emergency Staffing, for free download through the microsite.
In addition to policies and training related to public safety coronavirus response, the site also provided access to COVID-19 grant funding information and featured thought leadership and news. Throughout the pandemic, we kept the site current with updated courses, new policy directives and ongoing news and analysis.
In the early days of the pandemic, first responders were facing unparalleled risk and contracting COVID-19 at high rates, so speed was a factor in the design of the microsite—we needed to get resources into the hands of firefighters, police officers and paramedics as soon as possible. We focused on a clean, straight-forward, informational design to accomplish this. Lexipol’s thought leadership efforts and intuitive design emphasized how public safety can continue to set a high standard of professionalism while safely and effectively serving their communities during the pandemic.
