Seated along the rolling hills of Eastern Appalachia’s Catoctin Mountains, Catoctin Breeze is more than a vineyard. It’s an experience. This multi-award-winning vineyard has come to be known across the region for their wide range of varietal, blended, and honey wines. When the owners of Catoctin Breeze Vineyard developed the concept for a new line of wine themed around their love of classical music, they turned to Lisa Gorham Creative for packaging design. They wanted something as creative and whimsical as the famous compositions themselves.
Since each wine within the series would be named after a notable composition and showcase the respective composer, this felt like the perfect opportunity to feature these famous artists in a whole new way. The illustrations were hand-drawn while listening to each artist’s composition. This process allowed the movements and fluctuations of the music to guide the hand, and ultimately ‘compose’ a unique piece of art. An audio-to-visual translation where the likeness of each composer is swirling, whimsical, and melodic.
The 2020 Waltz Albariño is the newest addition to the series, featuring Austrian composer, Johann Strauss Jr. (1825–1899), and his zany chops—illustrated while listening to his ‘Voices of Spring Waltz.’ This is the thirteenth wine label and illustration to join the Catoctin Breeze Vineyard Composer Wine Series.
