The August 2021 issue of Broad Ripple Magazine was a culmination of many ideas to elevate a traditional print magazine into an interactive publication. Part of the Towne Post Network, Broad Ripple Magazine is a hyperlocal publication that focuses its content on the northside of Indianapolis. The cover story featured Hotel Broad Ripple, a beautiful boutique hotel in Indianapolis. In addition we covered stories on the brand new, state of the art bouldering gym and told the story of the legacy of Chef Greg Hardesty, a local culinary influence for many of the cities top chefs. This was also the last month of a 6 month bike map that we ran in the center of the magazine. We commissioned a local artist and partnered with many local businesses to create this unique rendition of a popular bike trail in Indianapolis called the Monon Trail. The map was printed as a two page spread but was laid out vertically. We ran if for three months focusing the south end of the trail and another three months focusing on the north end. Both maps actually connect to form a unique artistic poster.
The interactive part of the publication came in many forms. In partnership with Hotel Broad Ripple, we created an open house event to showcase their new expansion. We also produced a behind the scenes video on the photography and design of the North Mass Boulder story and we worked with a local culinary initiative, Culinary Crossroads, to produce a video of Chef Greg Hardesty's last public dinner before he passed.
The stories in the issue and the way we tied this printed publication to additional content and event experiences is what we aim to do with all our issues in one form or another. Our team was very proud of this particular issue because all the things we strived for came to fruition.
