Resolute Forest Products is a global leader in the forest products industry with a diverse range of products, including market pulp, tissue, wood products and papers, which are marketed in more than 60 countries. We own or operate some 40 facilities, as well as power generation assets, in the United States and Canada. Resolute has third party certified 100% of our managed woodlands to internationally recognized sustainable forest management standards.
As a supplier of choice within our industry, Resolute focuses on maximizing our contributions to the circular economy, reducing our carbon footprint, creating positive social impact and supporting our operating communities. Our fundamental goal is to generate value for the company and shareholders while driving economic activity in a sustainable and responsible way. Resolute’s environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance is driven by our leadership on sustainability. We established an ambitious sustainability strategy in 2011 and have been reporting annually on our public commitments according to the requirements of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) ever since. Our leadership in ESG reporting, corporate social responsibility and sustainable development has received regional, North American and global recognition. The importance of good quality ESG disclosures has never been more urgent, particularly in light of our need to address the global challenge of climate change. In response, Resolute developed a suite of leaflets in 2021 that improve access to and the availability of our ESG reporting. Our Public Commitments leaflet provides a detailed look at our commitment to continuous improvement and transparency, highlighting our 2021 sustainability targets and 2020 performance. The report succinctly tracks Resolute’s performance against our stated environmental, economic, governance and social commitments and in key areas of impact including: carbon emissions, water stewardship and forest management; product innovation; data security and privacy; Indigenous business and strategic partnerships; employee training and retention; and community outreach and charitable contributions. The members of our sustainability committee meet quarterly to review progress, and rate our performance annually on each target. In this way, we hold ourselves accountable to our public commitments and aim to continuously improve our progress and performance over time.
