The medieval fortress overlooking the Croatian capital of Zagreb was recently rescued from oblivion and transformed into the immersive Medvedgrad Visitor Centre. It welcomes its visitor with three innovative multimedia museum exhibitions, each tailor-made for the history-rich location, breaking every visitor record since its opening in 2021.
The visitor starts its journey with a masterful three-floored mural with animations, sounds, light effects, and movement that “brings to life” the habitat and animal species of the nearby forest. The visitor is then learning about the mountain’s geological past, the tales of the Black Raven, and their medieval destiny from the Medvedgrad’s witch. They continue their journey to the shadow theatre, rich with tales of witches, fairies, and the Black Queen. The medieval pantry teaches the visitor how to recreate the medieval culinary heritage and the impressive 3D mapping model of the fortress interprets the events and people who shaped the cultural identity of this area. All the exhibitions content is carefully designed according to universal values and relatable experiences so that each visitor can successfully connect with the interpreted heritage.
The exhibitions guide the visitor through a journey of exploring and connecting with the medieval history of the fortress while revealing peculiarities of natural heritage that surround its defending walls. All three exhibitions, although using different media and choreography of experiences, were designed with the same goal: to contribute to a deeper respect for our coexistence with nature and to inspire everyone to live this connection as meaningfully as possible in their own lives. Sensory stimulating, visually pleasing, and highly interactive, the exhibitions impact every visitor and stimulate all their senses, creating a long-lasting memory and a deeper understanding of the fortress, the mountain where it lays, and their intertwined heritage stories.
