The Returning King exhibit in the ICR Discovery Center presents six chapters in the life of Jesus: Birth, Life, Death, Resurrection, Ascension, and His return.
This eight minute film utilizes dual video projection to create a spatial holographic effect - a semi-transparent foil screen for foreground images, complemented by a rear wall projection screen. The story is told through moving and still images and animation, overlaying scripture at key moments throughout the film.
Live action elements were shot against greenscreen, black and custom printed backdrops, and on location in real environments. Additional layers of smoke, flare, particles, and text applied with SHINE were used to enhance the spatial dimension through feathering, vignetting, and oscillation / movement of images, to enhance parallax between the foreground holographic foil screen and the rear projection screen.
A custom, miniaturized 'dual display' box emulating the 3D effect was designed and constructed by media system integrator, MediaMerge, who was responsible for the audio/visual/technology installation at the museum. This device allowed real-time viewing of the spatial component during shooting and post-production, contributing to quality creative production of the final product.

Creative Director Stephen Lyons enlisted the support of composer David Russell for the musical score, beginning conversations one year prior to production start. Lyrics were written and sung in Latin, and strings and choral were recorded in Bratislava with members of the Bratislava Symphony Orchestra and Choir.
