As part of the 2022 SurfaceSet® Collection, Formica Group launched a pattern called Birchbark. A biophilic white option for interiors, Birchbark is an innovative way for interior designers and architects to bring nature inside and into commercial spaces. The Birchbark Design Story was scripted, filmed, and produced to tell the story of the pattern from inspiration to execution.
This Birchbark design was created by quite literally by ‘taking a walk’ in the woods for inspiration. We decided to mirror that compelling simplicity for the design story video as well. The story takes us through the commercial interior design trends of biophilic design and natural materials, as well as the inspirational elements, like moss and lenticular slits in the bark, that were experienced throughout the process.
A small crew was utilized in order to be a part of the environment and not impact it. The scattered light that filters through tree leaves created a pleasant ambiance for a walk through the woods, and transformed the walk into something special and inspiring. The diffused light enriched the natural earth tones and colors of the forest – the moss, the bark and the earth.
The final video is translated for use across North America and is used on the Formica website, in campaigns, social media and in sales presentations to tell the story of the Birchbark design to customers.
