For a second straight year, Target and NBCUniversal joined forces to create the “Scene in Color” film series, an award-winning campaign that aims to build a more diverse and inclusive industry. This year, we selected three compelling short films from emerging filmmakers of color. The artists behind these films were given the opportunity to meet with producer Will Packer, who spoke with them about their processes, their inspirations, and what they hope to accomplish next. Alongside their films, our filmmakers’ interviews with Mr. Packer were made available on Peacock as well as within a custom hub on Rotten Tomatoes. We also created cutdowns of the interviews, which aired across the portfolio and drove viewers to Peacock and Rotten Tomatoes to view the films and full-length interviews. The goal of this series wasn’t just to put these films in front of a wider audience, though. The goal of the series was to help provide a launching pad for the careers of these incredible young filmmakers. That’s why Will Packer surprised each of these directors with a pilot script commitment from NBCUniversal, supported through a generous grant from Target. With these pilot commitments, our artists will have the opportunity to work with development executives, helping them build the skills and forge the connections they’ll need to succeed in the entertainment industry. In addition to featuring this year’s artists, we also filmed follow-up pieces with the three artists from last year’s Scene in Color campaign. These pieces lived alongside the rest of the campaign’s content on Peacock and Rotten Tomatoes, showcasing the progress made by the first class of Scene in Color filmmakers over the past year.
