In October 2022, NBCUniversal released the highly anticipated final film in David Gordon Green’s Halloween trilogy: Halloween Ends. This was an opportunity for NBCU to own the holiday of Halloween, the horror genre as a whole, and the entire month of October. Leveraging the full power of the portfolio – from films and television to Peacock and parks – we created a one-hour Halloween spectacular that firmly established NBCU as the home of all things Halloween. Hosted by Chris Hardwick from Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood, this special included exclusive interviews, surprise appearances by more than 30 of NBCU’s brightest stars, and a never-before-seen look at Halloween Ends. We also took a look at the earliest Universal monster movies and the modern horror classics of Blumhouse and beyond, and brought audiences behind-the-scenes of the most iconic films of the genre, exploring everything from sound and music design to hair and make-up. And finally, we featured a special message delivered by everyone’s favorite “final girl”: Jamie Lee Curtis.
In the end, this ad designed to promote a single film release did so much more. Instead of just supporting entertainment content, it became entertainment content; garnering over 1.4 million viewers on NBC and ranking in the top 20% of content streamed on Peacock. Plus, it achieved the original goal; helping to earn Halloween Ends over $100 million worldwide and landing the biggest ever film debut on Peacock.
