Just as NBCU planned to reconvene in person for its 2021 in-person upfront at Radio City, all hopes were dashed by new variants of the coronavirus. The original design was to open the show with NBCU’s late night talent, but the pivot leaned into the in-person cancellation itself. This vignette allowed our late night talent to express their excitement about participating in the upfront in a comical way, and of course, the disappointment we all felt about yet another virtual event.
